Delivering on Our Promises.
For Team 420, your interests are our top priority, and our diverse and dedicated team of candidates will fight to ensure that you are represented in the decision-making process and that your voice is part of every discussion. Our Local Union is only as strong as its members, which is why our commitment to you is unparalleled.
Team 420’s record of success is clear:
-
Preserved health and welfare benefits for all members and their families for 16 months during the pandemic, from March 2020 to July 2021, whether they were working or not, to protect everyone during this public health emergency. This benefit was available due to the strategic investments made by your Health & Welfare Fund trustees.
-
Secured a 0% increase on retirees’ medical coverage through sound financial management.
-
Ensured no contributions were needed this year for the Health & Welfare Fund because of prudent management by Trustees during difficult times.
-
Negotiated a new contract in 2020 with a 9.75 percent raise over three years for members.
-
Secured a raise of $3.30 for 2022-23.
-
Kept members working during the height of the pandemic because of successful negotiations with Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney. The economy mostly shut down, but Steamfitters remained on the job as “essential” workers, supporting the state’s response and recovery efforts.
-
Responded to members who wanted more control over their money by updating the Vacation Fund to give you more choices.
-
Reported the highest amount ever in the Pension Fund, with $624 million in assets at the end of 2021. The Trustees’ steady and conservative approach to investing has led to funding levels that have not been achieved in 20-plus years.
-
In 2009, the “funding period,” which is the time it would take for the plan to be fully funded, was an infinite period of time. As of Jan. 1, 2022, that period is now 6.9 years, which is the lowest it has been since 1985.
-
The plan is 74.22% funded as of Jan. 1, 2022, which is the best funding percentage since 2000.
-
-
Based on your current Trustees’ recommendation, the membership voted to amend the Pension Fund credits and accruals during the 2020 pension year in response to the pandemic, lowering a full credit from 1,500 to 800 hours and a half credit from 750 to 400 hours, and raising the accrual from 6 cents to 7 cents per credit.
-
Allowed for an additional second distribution within a year from members’ Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP) due to COVID-19.
-
Brought the Supplemental Retirement Fund to $12.00 an hour.
-
Continued to organize businesses and contractors to grow the service divisions.
-
Utilized the Market Recovery Fund to capture manhours and leveraged the fund to secure work with new end users who never used Steamfitters Local Union 420 before, resulting in more manhours than ever in Berks and Lehigh counties.
-
Strengthened the political influence of the Local Union by leveraging our relationships with local, state and national elected leaders. Officials seek us out for our input and support on issues related to workforce development; energy, labor and fair-trade policies; and so much more. Our influence continues to grow.
-
Leveraged our relationships. Team 420 helped Monroe Energy network with Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration, where the company had limited connections, helping the refinery secure state funding for the construction of state-of-the-art cooling towers that Steamfitters will help to build.
-
Gave back to our communities. Steamfitters have a long history of charitable service, and that mission carried more weight during the pandemic. While others were locked down, many Local Union members were helping their neighbors, supplying PPE to local health-care facilities, donating coats to families in need, serving meals at the Ronald McDonald House, partnering with the 76ers on mentoring programs to keep students engaged, donating materials, and volunteering countless manhours to community organizations.
-
Created a Peer Advocate Program to support members who may be dealing with substance abuse or mental health challenges.
-
Embraced new technology and innovated to communicate to keep members informed. Some of those innovations remain in place even as the pandemic recedes, enhancing more traditional tools like THE PIPELINE and e-mail blasts that provide regular updates and timely information.
-
Pivoted during the pandemic when in-person meetings were prohibited by launching video conferencing for the first time to keep members informed, support an open line of communications and ensure transparency in our operations, as agents, training instructors, fund managers and others all provided reports to members.
